KILLEEN, TX—(Oct. 17, 2011) Texas A&M University-Central Texas (TAMU-CT) was awarded an incentive check from Oncor’s Educational Facilities Program (EFP). The university received $561 for installing an energy efficient air conditioning system in its new campus building.
The EFP helps schools save energy and money by providing no-cost facility improvement recommendations and financial incentives based on the total amount of energy the university will save. The energy efficient air conditioning equipment will save nearly 3,000 kilowatt-hours of energy annually, equivalent to the carbon dioxide emissions of more than 200 gallons of gasoline, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency calculations.
“The Educational Facilities Program from Oncor has been instrumental in completing this project,” said Director of Facilities Management Christopher Hill. “While we’re enjoying the energy savings, our students appreciate the more comfortable learning environment.”
In addition to financial incentives, the EFP provided no-cost technical assistance to ensure TAMU-CT selected the appropriate high efficiency equipment. The EFP also worked with the university to involve personnel from all departments in the decision-making process so everyone understood the financial benefits of investing in the project.
“Schools are an integral part of the communities Oncor serves. Oncor is excited about this unique program that helps schools facing budget challenges to invest in energy efficiency improvements,” said Oncor Area Manager Karl Green. “We look forward to continuing to work with universities like Texas A&M University-Central Texas to make these much-needed projects happen.”
